…Stakeholders to converge on digital communication, governance and combating misinformation
Preparations have entered the final stage for the Ogun State Progressives New Media Summit, as the Convener of the programme and Special Assistant on New Media to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), Omooba Damilare Oloyede, intensified consultations with key stakeholders ahead of the event scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.
The summit, themed “Defending the Truth, Advancing Renewed Hope, and Shaping the Future of Progress for Ogun State with Senator YAYI”, is expected to bring together social media influencers, digital content creators, communication strategists, online publishers, media professionals and progressive advocates from across Ogun State to examine the growing role of digital media in governance, public enlightenment and political communication.
As part of ongoing mobilisation efforts, Oloyede has secured the support of Mr. Emmanuel Ojo, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Digital Communication and Comrade Femi Nuberu, Publicity Secretary of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to encourage members of the progressive family, media aides and digital communicators to participate actively in the summit.
Speaking on the objectives of the programme, Oloyede described the summit as more than a routine gathering, noting that it is designed to equip participants with contemporary digital communication skills while promoting ethical online engagement.
“The summit is a strategic platform for building the capacity of digital communicators to combat misinformation, promote fact-based public discourse and effectively project the achievements of progressive administrations”, he said.
According to him, the increasing influence of digital platforms in shaping public opinion makes it imperative for media practitioners, influencers and communication professionals to remain informed, coordinated and professionally equipped to communicate government policies accurately and responsibly.
The organisers said the summit will also provide participants with practical insights into digital advocacy, strategic communication, content creation and the responsible use of new media in strengthening democratic governance and citizen engagement.
To enrich discussions, the summit will feature presentations from a distinguished panel of public officials and communication experts, including the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Kunle Salako; Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Jamiu Akande Omoniyi; former Chairman of Ijebu North Local Government and legal practitioner, Hon. Adebayo Adekoya, Esq.; Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media Relations, Hon. Ifekayode Akinbode; and renowned communication strategist, Olotu Bolaji Adeniji.
The interactive session will be moderated by the Baamofin of Ipokia Kingdom, Chief Jibola Lawal Orisadare, Esq., whose experience in public communication is expected to provide additional perspective on strategic media engagement.
Oloyede expressed confidence that the calibre of speakers assembled reflects the organisers’ commitment to delivering a high-impact programme capable of strengthening Ogun State’s digital communication ecosystem and promoting responsible online engagement.

The Planning Committee said it expects the event to serve as a significant platform for promoting ethical digital communication, strengthening collaboration among progressive communicators and supporting informed public discourse in Ogun State.
