The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State has adopted Hon. Adisa Akintomiwa, popularly known as Adidas, as its consensus candidate for the State House of Assembly seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The adoption, which took place on April 30, at the PDP party secretariat in Shokori, Abeokuta, signals a strategic move by the party to consolidate internal unity and strengthen its electoral position in the constituency.
The process was supervised by key party leaders, including Hon. Yusuf Oshunrinde, alongside the Local Government collegiate chairman, Dr. Olaleye, Assistant LG Secretary Mrs. Kabirat Subuola and representatives from all 16 wards in Abeokuta North.

Prominent party figures in attendance included Prince Lekan Tejuoso, Alhaji Adesina Hassan, Hon. Mumuni Arogundade, Hon. Jelili Bello, Hon. Akinmade, Hon. Aminu Muiz and other grassroots leaders, reflecting broad-based endorsement across party structures.
Party insiders said the consensus was reached after extensive consultations, citing Akintomiwa’s long-standing loyalty, competence, calm disposition and general acceptability among stakeholders.
Reacting to his emergence, Akintomiwa expressed gratitude to party leaders and members, describing the development as both historic and humbling.
“I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful for the trust you have reposed in me. This is not my victory, it is OUR victory. It is a victory for unity over division, progress over stagnation”, he said.
He noted that his emergence marks a significant shift within the party:
“For the first time in the party’s history, an organic, very young candidate like me emerged as a consensus candidate”.
Akintomiwa outlined a people-centered agenda aimed at bridging the gap between government and citizens in Abeokuta North.
“Our focus is simple: close the distance between the government and the people, restore the suppressed state constituency, and promote an agricultural pilot programme that will benefit the less privileged”.
In a notable pledge, he added:
“I give the people of Abeokuta North my word, I will not be taking my allowances home. It will be dedicated to a charity programme within the local government”.
He further committed to inclusive representation: “From one to sixteen, no ward will be left behind”.
Premier World News views the development as part of early realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with the PDP positioning itself to challenge the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.
The adoption of a youthful, consensus-backed candidate is seen as a calculated move to energize grassroots support and present an alternative political narrative in the constituency, and with both major parties activating early strategies, Abeokuta North is emerging as a key battleground in the state’s evolving political landscape, Premier World News reports.
