Abuja – The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power and Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiyeas Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, following their nomination by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The confirmation came less than 24 hours after the President transmitted their names to the National Assembly in a formal request read during plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The upper legislative chamber approved both nominees after screening them in line with constitutional provisions, reinforcing the Senate’s role in executive appointments and governance oversight.
The nominations fill strategic gaps in two critical ministries, power and foreign affairs, both central to Nigeria’s economic stability and international engagement.
Tegbe’s nomination followed the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective political office, leaving a leadership vacuum in a sector widely regarded as pivotal to Nigeria’s development.
Similarly, Enikanolaiye’s appointment comes amid ongoing adjustments within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the redeployment of Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who previously served in both senior ministerial roles within the ministry.
Before his elevation, Enikanolaiye served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations, bringing diplomatic experience into his new role.
Both appointments come at a time of heightened public expectation.
Nigeria’s power sector continues to grapple with generation shortfalls, transmission challenges and distribution inefficiencies, placing immediate pressure on Tegbe to deliver measurable improvements.
In the diplomatic space, Enikanolaiye is expected to support Nigeria’s foreign policy direction, strengthen bilateral relations and advance the country’s global positioning amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
Premier World News views the confirmation of Tegbe and Enikanolaiye marks more than routine appointments, it signals a test of performance and accountability in two sensitive sectors.
Premier World News also reports that their success or failure will likely influence public perception of the administration’s reform agenda.
With mounting economic and diplomatic challenges, both ministers are emerging as key figures to watch, as Nigerians assess whether the latest reshuffle will translate into tangible governance outcomes, Premier World News reports.
