The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, has officially dissociated itself from the League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP), declaring that the group is neither a recognized organ, chapel, affiliate nor professional association operating under the constitutional structure of the union.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Council, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, and the Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the union said LOYAMP has no legal or constitutional backing to present itself as representing journalists or media practitioners under the umbrella of the NUJ in Ogun State.
The Council stated unequivocally that no group bearing the name “League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP)” exists within the constitutional framework of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ogun State, stressing that any claim suggesting otherwise is misleading.
“For the avoidance of doubt, no group bearing the name ‘League of Yewa-Awori Media Practitioners (LOYAMP)’ exists within the constitutional structure of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ogun State. Consequently, it has no authority or mandate to present itself as speaking for media practitioners or journalists in the state”, the statement read.
The Council further clarified that the Ota Independent Online Chapel remains the only duly recognized NUJ chapel serving the Ogun West Senatorial District, describing its members as professional journalists with proven integrity and a track record of credible news coverage across the region.

According to the union, the Nigeria Union of Journalists remains the only legally recognized umbrella body for practicing journalists in Ogun State and will continue to uphold the ethics, professionalism and credibility of journalism.
The Council therefore advised members of the public, government agencies, corporate organisations, development partners and other stakeholders to disregard any representation by LOYAMP implying that it speaks on behalf of journalists or media practitioners under the auspices of the NUJ.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of the journalism profession and ensuring that only constitutionally recognized professional bodies operate under the banner of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The statement concluded by assuring journalists and the general public that the Council would continue to safeguard the credibility, ethics and professional standards upon which the NUJ is founded.
