Community elders in Ojodu have appealed for calm following unrest sparked by allegations that Modupeoluwa Oduwole was involved in a same-sex relationship, an act regarded by many residents as contrary to the values of the community.
Reports indicate that some angry youths stormed and set fire to Oduwole’s apartment after they were unable to find her. Her whereabouts remain unknown at the time of filing this report.
The Chairman of the Ojodu Community, Alhaji Jamiu Adigun, condemned the attack on Oduwole’s residence and urged residents not to resort to self-help, insisting that lawful authorities should be allowed to handle the matter.
“What Modupeoluwa Oduwole is alleged to have done is considered an abomination in our community and against our values. However, no individual or group has the right to take the law into their own hands. We are calling on our youths to remain calm and allow the appropriate authorities to do their job. If she is found guilty under the law, then justice must take its proper course through the appropriate legal channels,” he said.
Also speaking on the development, the Youth Leader of the Ojodu Community, Idris Akindele, said the youths would respect the directive of the elders and suspend any further action while awaiting the intervention of law enforcement agencies.
“The youths of Ojodu are deeply angered by these allegations, and we believe that no act that brings dishonour to our community should go unaddressed. However, we have listened to our elders and will allow the authorities to take charge of the situation. We expect that justice will be served in accordance with the law and without unnecessary delay. We will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities as they carry out their responsibilities,” Akindele stated.

They urged residents to allow due process to prevail while the relevant authorities handle the matter. The whereabouts of Modupeoluwa Oduwole remain unknown, with residents saying she has not been seen in the community since the allegations became public.
