Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State – A group of concerned students of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (AAPOLY), Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State, has petitioned the institution’s management, calling for an immediate investigation into allegations of electoral intimidation and academic threats involving a lecturer, as preparations continue for the institution’s Students’ Union election.
In an open letter dated June 11, 2026, and signed by Comrade Ismaila Abiodun, Coordinator of Ijebu Remo Students, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic (HND I), the students alleged that Mr. Kuola Joseph, a lecturer in the Accountancy Department who teaches ACC 121, attempted to influence the outcome of the student election through alleged promises of academic rewards and threats of victimisation.
According to the petition, the lecturer allegedly told students that those who voted for his preferred candidate would receive additional marks, while those who refused to support the candidate could face academic consequences.

The petition further claimed that students were allegedly instructed to provide photographic evidence of their ballot papers as proof of voting for the preferred candidate.
The students quoted the lecturer as allegedly saying, “Vote for Khalifah and win 20 marks”.
The petitioners argued that, if established, such conduct would undermine academic integrity, compromise the credibility of the students’ electoral process and violate students’ rights to participate freely in campus elections without coercion.
The students also alleged that the Polytechnic’s Rector was involved in the students’ electoral process by allegedly favouring certain candidates in the management of polling arrangements.
However, the petition did not provide supporting evidence for the allegation and called on the institution to investigate the claims.
Expressing dissatisfaction over what they described as perceived interference in the forthcoming Students’ Union election, the petitioners urged the management to ensure that lecturers and other officials remain neutral throughout the electoral process.
Among their requests, the students called for an independent investigation into the allegations, separation of polling units between the main and mini campuses, protection for students willing to testify and an official assurance that no staff member would influence election outcomes or students’ academic performance.
“We are not here to convict anyone. We are here to protect the integrity of AAPOLY and ensure no student votes out of fear”, the petition stated.
The students further appealed to the management to issue a public statement reaffirming that academic grades should be based solely on merit and that all students should be allowed to exercise their voting rights without intimidation or undue influence.
Copies of the petition were addressed to the Deputy Rector, Registrar, Dean of Students’ Affairs, Deans of various schools, Heads of Departments, the press and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun State Joint Campus Committee (JCC).
As of the time of filing this report, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic had not issued an official responseto the allegations, and Premier World News has not independently verified the claims contained in the petition.
The outcome of any investigation by the institution may provide further clarification on the issues raised.
