The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected Alhaji Abdulhameed Femi Omotayo, popularly known as Omo-Owo, as its candidate for the Ogun East Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Omotayo emerged victorious during the party’s senatorial primary election held on Wednesday at the Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
His emergence is already generating conversations within political circles across Ogun East, with party members describing the businessman and private-sector player as one of the opposition figures to watch ahead of the 2027 polls.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Omo-Owo thanked party leaders, delegates and supporters across the senatorial district for the confidence reposed in him, describing the victory as a collective movement for the future of Ogun East.
“I am deeply honoured by the trust and confidence our party and our people have placed in me. I do not take this responsibility lightly. Today is not about one man. It is about the future of Ogun East”, he said.
“It is about building a Senatorial District where every community feels heard, respected, included and represented”.
The PDP candidate stated that his campaign would be driven by the principles of equity, justice, peace and progress, insisting that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of fairness and inclusion.

With years of experience in business development and Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, Omotayo said he intends to bring practical leadership and institution-building experience into public service.
He also pledged to run an issue-based and peaceful campaign across the nine local government areas that make up Ogun East Senatorial District, promising equal attention to Ijebu, Remo and Ogun Waterside communities.
“This campaign will not be defined by division, bitterness, or exclusion. It will be defined by unity, inclusion, development and genuine service to the people”, he added.
In what appears to be part of his grassroots strategy, Omo-Owo disclosed plans to establish technologically enabled constituency offices across Ogun East to improve communication and accessibility between elected representatives and the people.
“I might not be able to resolve all issues, but I promise to respond to all. The people of Ogun East deserve a Senator who listens, engages and remains accessible”, he stated.
The campaign organization also emphasized youth inclusion and community participation, particularly among first-time voters and young people across the district.
Premier World News reports that Omo-Owo’s emergence could reshape opposition politics within Ogun East, especially as the PDP seeks to strengthen its structure and regain electoral relevance in the district ahead of 2027.
Premier World News also notes that his business background, grassroots appeal, and message of inclusiveness may position him as a rallying point for opposition forces seeking to challenge the dominance of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East Senatorial District.
Premier World News further reports that with political alignments gradually taking shape across Ogun State, the Ogun East senatorial contest is expected to remain one of the closely watched political battles ahead of the next general election.
