The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has suffered another significant political setback following the resignation of former State Publicity Secretary and former Director of Media and Communication of the party, Asiwaju Akinloye Bankole (JP).
Akinloye announced his resignation in a letter dated May 20, 2026, addressed to the PDP leadership through his ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
In the strongly worded resignation letter obtained by Premier World News, the former party spokesman described his decision as “difficult and painful,” blaming recent political developments and what he termed the gradual collapse of the opposition party’s relevance in Ogun State.
According to him, events within the last one year had reduced the PDP to “a mere support group” for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), making it impossible for the party to guarantee his political future and aspirations.
“I write to officially notify your good office of my immediate resignation from membership in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP”, he stated.
“This is indeed a very difficult and painful decision that has to be taken now as political events in the last one year have reduced the PDP to a mere support group for the ruling APC, making our PDP a thoroughly dilapidated vehicle that can no longer guarantee my personal political growth, interests and aspirations”, the letter added.
Akinloye, who joined the PDP in 2002, appreciated the party leadership and members for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of the party over the years.
He particularly expressed gratitude to the PDP governorship candidate in Ogun State during the 2023 elections, Hon. Dr. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu (LADO), whom he described as “a wonderful leader” with uncommon courage, resilience and dedication to the progress of Ogun State.
“I am particularly grateful to our leader and principal, Hon. Dr. Oladipupo Olatunde Adebutu, LADO, for his extraordinary kindness and leadership. History, in its fairness, will definitely remember and reward his uncommon courage, resilience and steadfast dedication to the good of Ogun State”, he wrote.
The former PDP image-maker also paid glowing tribute to Omo’ba Dr. Sunday Solarin, whom he described as “a cerebral leader” and “an incredibly priceless asset to Ogun State”.
He further appreciated members of the LADO media team and the Directorate of Media and Communication for what he called years of shared sacrifice, discipline, commitment and loyalty.
Despite his exit, Akinloye disclosed that consultations were ongoing regarding his next political destination, noting that political inactivity was no longer an option for him.
“Political idleness is a luxury I cannot afford at this stage. I shall make my next political habitat known to the general public as soon as I complete consultations with my family and associates”, he stated.
Premier World News reports that Akinloye’s resignation represents another heavy loss for the Ogun PDP, which has continued to witness internal cracks and the exit of notable political actors in recent months.
Premier World News also notes that the development may further strengthen the APC’s growing influence in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as several opposition figures continue strategic consultations and realignments across party lines.
Premier World News further reports that Akinloye’s next political move is already generating conversations within Ogun political circles, with speculations mounting over a possible alliance with the ruling APC or another emerging political structure in the state.
