Ogun PDP lampoons Abiodun’s Gov’t over Teargas for School Girls

“Dapo Abiodun has lost the plot”, – says, Bankole Akinloye

In Nigeria, the Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ogun State, Bankole Akinloye has lampooned the Dapo Abiodun-led All Progressives Congress, APC government in the State over the reports that the state government had perfected plans to arm 200 school girls with teargas canisters.

The Ogun State Director of Women Empowerment Services, Wonuola Kazeem, was reported to have said that; the Dapo Abiodun government procured the “empowerment materials” to help them fight against sexual assaulters.

While reacting through a statement made available to the Press on Friday, the spokesman of the PDP in Ogun State, Bankole Akinloye said – “Dapo Abiodun has lost it again, because he has run out of ideas to properly run the government”.

The statement reads in parts thus:

“In sticking with its trademark of crass incompetence, the Dapo Abiodun-led All Progressives Congress, APC government in Ogun has again descended into the absurd; it appears the rejected Abiodun has run out of ideas to properly run the government”.

“In the latest slew of governance gaffes, Ogun citizens recently woke up to reports that the state government had perfected plans to arm 200 schoolgirls with teargas canisters. The Director of Women Empowerment Services, Wonuola Kazeem, was reported to have said, –the Dapo Abiodun government procured the empowerment materials” to help them fight against sexual assaulters.

“The Ogun State chapter of the PDP, as a responsible political organisation, holds all matters that ensure the sanctity and esteem of the girl child in high regards; our great party remains resolute in protection of our female children and women against sexual violence in any guise or disguise”.

“Nonetheless, we are, however, curious to know how the impracticable policy of arming young school girls with teargas canisters survived the test of any robust, intelligent and right thinking state executive, if such was ever presented for consideration”.

“If this is the best that can come from the Dapo Abiodun-led State Executive Council, then it is safe to hold an informed view that Ogun State is just a trial by error experiment. And it further goes to reinforce the reasons why the entire State workforce, which sees to the implementation of all government policies, unapologetically stood against Dapo Abiodun’s re-election bid”.

“So that the people are not perpetually kept in the dark on matters germane to the management of financial resources of the state, we challenge the outgoing government of Mr Abiodun to explain, in details, the amount of money used in purchasing the teargas canisters which, as revealed by Wonuola Kazeem are in millions.Again, the outgoing government should inform the people whether such expenditure was captured in the 2023 budget”.

“For us as a people-oriented alternative, we are of strong conviction that if workers salaries, pension, gratuity, cooperatives and other statutory entitlements are paid as and when due by the same government who promised to prioritize the workers’ welfare and wellbeing, incidents of social ills from children and wards will reduce to the bearest minimum”.

“Apart from this, a responsible government ought to invest more of its financial resources in improved social services like mass education and regular orientation programmes and other responsible expenditures that would ensure transparent distributions of wealth across earning levels”.

“These are steps that would ultimately increase  distraction on mis-demeanours among rampaging members of the public. As such, these are better ideas that a responsible and responsive government should consider instead of turning the already charged space to an unregulated war zone where teargas canisters compete with several other dangerous weapons that are already in circulation”.

“If not that those in the helm of our affairs are manifestly bereft of decent ideas, how on earth can any government official or administrator(s) manage or monitor the regular use and replacement of teargas canisters deployed to 20 Local Government Areas with 236 political wards across Ogun State”.

Has Ogun State suddenly become a mad jungle of comedy under the watch of Dapo Abiodun and his rudderless APC?”.

“It is important to, once again, remind the good people of Ogun state that the PDP is aware of their patriotic desire to break the shackles of APC’s Dapo Abiodun mis-governance and callous insensitivity”.

“This is a path of recovery that we are patiently committed to take in strict partnership with the people; and in another few months, Ogun State shall be ushered into a glorious era of responsible governance that works for the good of the people”.
