The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has engaged Anglican bishops in Sagamu as part of consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election, presenting his proposed ITESIWAJU Agendafor the state.
The meeting, held at the Bishop’s Court in Sagamu, focused on expectations for the next administration, with discussions covering security, education, healthcare, skills development, empowerment, equitable distribution of development and good governance.
The Anglican leaders also raised issues concerning the welfare and role of religious organisations in the state, according to the account of the meeting.
In his welcome address, the Archbishop of Lagos Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr. Michael Olusina Fape, urged Adeola and other political actors to approach governance as a responsibility to all residents, irrespective of religious, ethnic or geographical differences.
The bishops also called for development to extend beyond major urban centres to rural and underserved communitiesacross Ogun State.
Yayi outlines governance agenda:
Responding to the concerns, Adeola said his administration, if elected in 2027, would pursue what he described as purposeful, inclusive and people-centred governance.
He referenced his record as a senator representing Ogun West and pointed to interventions associated with his legislative representation as evidence of his approach to public service.
Adeola also presented his ITESIWAJU Agenda, which he said was designed as a framework for sustaining existing development while expanding economic opportunities and improving living conditions across the state.
The agenda’s stated priority areas include infrastructure; tourism and culture; economic empowerment; security and welfare; inclusive growth and well-being; women, youth and poverty eradication; agriculture and food security; job creation and industrialisation; and urbanisation and transparency.
The proposed framework was unveiled by Adeola earlier in his engagement with political stakeholders in the state.
Pledge on religious harmony:
Adeola thanked the bishops for their prayers, counsel and reception, and pledged that his administration would promote religious harmony and maintain engagement with faith-based institutions.
He further assured the Anglican leaders that he would work to meet the expectations raised during the consultation.
“I will not let the Body of Christ down”, he said, according to the statement on the engagement.
The meeting comes amid growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship election, with candidates and political parties increasingly presenting policy proposals and engaging community, religious and other stakeholder groups.
The Anglican Church remains a significant institution in Ogun’s social and community development landscape.
Recent public engagements involving Archbishop Fape and state political leaders have similarly featured discussions around governance, education, youth development, social welfare and peaceful participation in the 2027 electoral process.
