The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abeokuta North Local Government Area has commenced a strategic ward-by-ward political summit aimed at strengthening grassroots mobilisation, promoting party unity and boosting voter participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative, which began in Ward 9 on Saturday, is expected to extend across all 16 political wards in the local government as part of efforts to consolidate the party’s structure and improve electoral performance in future elections.

The summit brought together party leaders, stakeholders, executive members, polling booth coordinators, women and youth leaders, as well as grassroots supporters, who unanimously pledged to work collectively towards delivering overwhelming electoral victories for the APC during the 2027 elections.

Speaking during the maiden edition, the APC Chairman in Abeokuta North Local Government, Chief (Mrs.) Alhaja Faidat Akintunde Sarumi, described the summit as a strategic grassroots engagement designed to strengthen party cohesion, improve political awareness, expand membership and enhance voter mobilisation across the council area.

She urged members to welcome new entrants into the party, particularly defectors from other political parties, stressing that inclusiveness would further strengthen the APC’s electoral fortunes.

“Open your doors to those joining our party. Give them a sense of belonging because every committed member strengthens our collective victory”, she said.

Alhaja Sarumi disclosed that Ward 9 was deliberately selected as the starting point because of its strategic political importance, describing it as one of the largest and most influential wards in Abeokuta North and Ogun State.

According to her, the ward continues to attract significant political attention due to its electoral strength and organisational capacity.

She also revealed that each ward would be encouraged to increase voter registration and intensify mobilisation efforts, adding that the objective was to secure an overwhelming electoral margin for the APC in future elections.

The chairman further noted that Abeokuta North remains committed to becoming a model local government within the APC, expressing optimism that sustained grassroots engagement would consolidate the party’s dominance.

“Our goal is to make Abeokuta North a reference point for political organisation and grassroots mobilisation while ensuring that our local government records one of the highest vote totals for the APC”, she stated.

Ward 9 comprises 32 polling units, with polling booth leaders receiving specific responsibilities to deepen voter education, encourage Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), strengthen community engagement and coordinate election-day mobilisation.

The Apex Leader of Ward 9, Hon. Dr. Wale Bello, commended members for the impressive turnout despite the short notice and encouraged party faithful to sustain the existing atmosphere of unity and peaceful cooperation.

He charged members to intensify grassroots political activities capable of positioning Ward 9 as one of the highest-performing APC wards during the 2027 elections.

Former Chairman of Abeokuta North-West LCDA, Hon. Monsuru Adio Sorunke, also addressed participants, urging members to remain united and committed to strengthening the party’s structures.

Similarly, the Ward 9 Chairman, Hon. Abiodun Akintunde, assured party leaders that the ward is really preparing to surpass its projected mobilisation target through ongoing membership expansion, voter registration campaigns and community outreach programmes.

Women and youth leaders, alongside other ward and local government executives, also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining grassroots mobilisation and strengthening support for the party.

Among dignitaries present were former APC Chairman in Abeokuta North, Alhaji Akeem Sobayo; Apex member, Hon. Mrs. Bolanle Osoba; former Leader of the House, Hon. Bayewunmi Olawale; Special Adviser on Community Development, Hon. Ogunkunle Ibrahim Adewale; and the Chief of Staff to the Abeokuta North Local Government Chairman, Hon. Ajibola Kayode, among other party leaders and stakeholders.

The political summit is expected to continue in the coming weeks across the remaining 15 wards as the APC intensifies grassroots consultations, voter mobilisation and organisational strengthening ahead of the next electoral cycle, Premier World News reports.
