The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ogun State Office, has announced a two-week extension of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise while introducing a new self-service online voter registration platform for first-time voters as part of efforts to improve accessibility, efficiency and participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.
The announcement was contained in a press release dated July 6, 2026 and signed by the Ogun State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mrs. Feyijimi Saseyi.
According to the Commission, the nationwide CVR exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, was initially scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, but has now been extended to Sunday, July 26, 2026, following a review of the exercise and feedback received from state offices, political parties, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

INEC explained that the extension is intended to provide additional opportunities for eligible Nigerians who have not yet registered to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of future elections.
The Commission also announced the introduction of an online self-service voter registration optionexclusively for eligible first-time voters.
According to the statement, the digital registration service will become operational from Wednesday, July 8, 2026, through the Commission’s dedicated CVR portal, where applicants will be guided through the registration process.
INEC stated that the innovation is designed to enable eligible citizens to initiate and complete their voter registration process, including biometric capture, using their personal devices without first visiting an INEC office.

The Commission added that the platform incorporates identity verification, biometric validation and backend integrity checks to safeguard the credibility and accuracy of the National Register of Voters.
The electoral body described the initiative as part of its broader commitment to innovation, accessibility and improved service delivery within Nigeria’s electoral system.
It therefore urged all eligible residents of Ogun State who are yet to register as voters to take advantage of both the extension period and the newly introduced digital registration platform.
“The Commission urges all eligible residents of Ogun State who are yet to register to take advantage of this extended window and explore the new voter registration technology option”, the statement read.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting a credible, inclusive and accessible voter registration process while leveraging technology to enhance citizens’ participation in democratic governance.
The Commission concluded with its official slogan:
“INEC: Consolidating Our Democracy, Making Your Votes Count!”
