The lawmaker representing Yewa North/Imeko-Afon Federal Constituency, Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI), has thrown his weight behind the ongoing nationwide Measles–Rubella vaccination campaign, describing it as a crucial intervention aimed at safeguarding the health and future of Nigerian children.
‘GNI’ said the immunisation exercise aligns with the public health and preventive care agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, whose administration has prioritised disease prevention, improved healthcare delivery and the protection of vulnerable populations, particularly children, from vaccine-preventable illnesses.
In a statement on Thursday, the federal lawmaker noted that measles and rubella remain serious public health threats, capable of causing severe complications including blindness, deafness, brain damage and in extreme cases, death.
He stressed that vaccination remains the safest, most effective and most affordable means of preventing outbreaks and reducing childhood mortality.
“Preventive healthcare remains the most cost-effective approach to building a healthy society. Vaccination is not just a medical intervention; it is a moral responsibility to protect the next generation”, GNI said.
The lawmaker also commended Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for aligning the state with the federal health agenda and for sustaining investments aimed at expanding healthcare access, particularly at the grassroots where preventive care is most impactful.
According to GNI, Ogun State’s active participation in the Measles–Rubella campaign reflects a shared commitment between the federal and state governments to strengthening public health systems and protecting children from avoidable diseases and long-term disabilities.
He called on local government chairmen, traditional rulers, market associations, youth groups, artisans and religious leaders to intensify mobilisation and sensitisation efforts to ensure widespread participation in the exercise.
The vaccination campaign targets children aged nine months to 14 years, with GNI urging parents and guardians to take advantage of the free, safe and effective programme to protect their children from preventable illnesses and needless loss of life.
