2027: Abeokuta South II Lawmaker IWA Makes Case for Second Term

As political activities gradually intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, conversations around performance, continuity and representation have begun to dominate public discourse across constituencies.

In Abeokuta South State Constituency II, a serving member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Igbalaye Wasiu Ayodele, popularly known as IWA, has emerged as one of the lawmakers being openly tipped by supporters for a second term in office under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Supporters and political observers point to what they describe as a combination of legislative effectiveness, constituency projects and sustained grassroots engagement as key factors shaping calls for continuity.

Hon. Igbalaye, who is also widely referred to as “Mr. Kosheleri”,  is noted for his long-standing community engagement even before assuming legislative office.

His interventions, particularly in empowerment programmes and social welfare, have earned him recognition among constituents.

Within his first year in office, the lawmaker reportedly facilitated an empowerment programme that benefited over 100 residents of Abeokuta South Constituency II.

Beneficiaries received cash support, sewing machines, grinding machines, makeup kits and other vocational tools, with special consideration extended to the elderly and persons living with disabilities.

Beyond empowerment, Igbalaye has been credited with facilitating several constituency projects across the wards in his constituency.

These include the provision of boreholes, solar-powered streetlights, support for primary school infrastructure and the facilitation of bridges and community access projects, aimed at improving daily living conditions.

One of his notable social intervention initiatives, “Ounje IWA,” was designed to address food access challenges among vulnerable residents.

According to constituents, the programme continues to provide periodic relief to households across the constituency.

In addition, party stakeholders confirm that several party members have been appointed as Special Advisers and consultants, a development that has strengthened political inclusion and reinforced his reputation as a leader who rewards loyalty and service.

Advocates for his second term argue that his tenure has been marked by people-oriented bills, welfare-driven initiatives and consistent engagement with constituents, factors they say justify continuity rather than disruption.

“A second term for IWA is not just about politics; it is about continuity, stability and development”, one supporter noted, adding that ongoing projects require time and legislative consistency to mature.

As political alignments begin to form ahead of 2027, Hon. Igbalaye Wasiu Ayodele’s performance record is expected to remain a focal point of debate within Abeokuta South State Constituency II, as constituents weigh continuity against alternative options in the democratic process.
