Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau and supporter of Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), Sunkanmi Oyejide, popularly known as Suco, has faulted recent comments by the Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the party’s criticism of the lawmaker as politically motivated and lacking substance.

The reaction followed remarks credited to the Ogun PDP through its media consultant, Afolabi Orekoya, in which Senator Adeola’s identity and political standing in Ogun State were reportedly questioned ahead of the 2027 governorship race.

Responding in a statement issued by Sunkanmi Oyejide of Onisasa Village, under the Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State, the PDP’s position was described as “desperate” and disconnected from political realities in the state.

According to the statement, the 2023 senatorial election victory of Yayi in Ogun West had already settled questions surrounding his acceptance and political identity within the district.

“Labeling Distinguished Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) a ‘stranger’ is not only false, it is an insult to the collective will of the people of Ogun West who elected him as their Senator in 2023”, the statement read.

Oyejide argued that Yayi’s growing popularity and grassroots appeal across Ogun State had unsettled opposition elements ahead of the 2027 political contest.

It further described the senator as a politician whose “journey has been defined by service, accessibility and results”, adding that his connection with the people was “earned and visible”.

The statement also accused the Ogun PDP of failing to present a convincing agenda to residents of the state, insisting that the opposition party should focus on offering policy alternatives rather than engaging in political attacks.

“Rather than engage in petty attacks and campaign of calumny, the PDP should face the real issue: they have no clear plan, no compelling vision and no credible alternative to offer the people of Ogun State”, the statement added.

‘Suco’ maintained that Senator Adeola remained focused on issues of development, economic growth and inclusive governance, while expressing confidence that Ogun voters would prioritise “substance over noise” ahead of the next governorship election.

Political activities ahead of the 2027 Ogun governorship race have continued to gather momentum, with key political actors and stakeholders across party lines increasingly positioning themselves for the contest.

Senator Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, remains one of the prominent figures being discussed in the evolving political calculations ahead of the election, Premier World News reports.
