The Ekiti State Police Command has thwarted a robbery on the Oye-Ikole Road, arresting two suspects and rescuing two abducted victims unharmed.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the breakthrough followed intelligence-led policing.

In a statement issued in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, he gave details of the early-morning operation.

According to Abutu, at about 3:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2026, three armed men attacked a broken-down petrol tanker along the Ikole-Oye Road.

The gang robbed the driver and his motor boy of their phones, then dragged both men into a nearby bush where they were tied to a tree.

The hoodlums returned to the tanker, removed six truck tyres and loaded them into an ash-coloured Ford minibus.

They were heading toward Kogi State when Safer Highway Patrol operatives, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted the vehicle.

Two suspects, Ezekiel Balogun and Usman Wada, both from Kabba in Kogi State, were arrested.

All six tyres were recovered, while the third suspect fled and is still being pursued.

Abutu added that the arrested men led operatives to the bush where the driver and his motor boy were found and rescued unharmed.

The case has now been moved to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation.

Ekiti Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

He urged residents to keep sharing timely information to help police fight crime.
