United States President Donald Trump says American military activity has reduced deadly attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria.

Speaking at a public event on Sunday in Washington, Trump highlighted his administration’s security operations abroad.

According to the President, U.S. intervention in Nigeria helped to stop gruesome attack that were reportedly directed at Christian populations, especially in regions facing insurgency.

“We recently struck Nigeria and largely ended the slaughter of great Christian populations”, Trump told the audience.

He described conditions before the reported action as grave, claiming that large numbers of civillians majorly the christians had been killed.

“They have a strong Christian population. They were being butchered and thousands of people were being killed, children, women, elderly, just being slaughtered, hacked to death”, he said.

Trump also buttressed that the operation weakened the groups blamed for the violence and discouraged further attacks.

“They understand that if they continue, the response will be much stronger, and they no longer want to be involved to the same extent”, he added.

“We struck them hard. We took out their leader, their second-in-command and their third-in-command”.
