A major political realignment has emerged in Ogun West following the defection of the Apagun Olaseni Salako Support Groups from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with members declaring total support for Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) and all APC candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development was announced by Apagun Olaseni Salako, a grassroots politician, philanthropist and former House of Representatives aspirant under the PDP platform, during a meeting attended by leaders, coordinators, members and supporters of his political structure across Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency.

Salako disclosed that the decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders and members of his support groups, noting that the move was motivated by the need to align with what he described as a progressive platform capable of advancing the development of Ogun West and Ogun State as a whole.

According to him, the emergence of Senator Olamilekan Adeola as the APC governorship candidate played a significant role in the decision.

“One of the major reasons behind our decision is the candidacy of Distinguished Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), whom we see as a transformational leader with the capacity, experience and vision to move Ogun State to greater heights”, Salako said.

He described support for Senator Adeola’s governorship aspiration as a historic responsibility aimed at promoting fairness, equity and inclusiveness in the political leadership of Ogun State.

“For decades since the creation of Ogun State, no indigene of Ogun West has had the opportunity to serve as Governor. This is a crucial moment for our people to unite and support a worthy son of the soil whose track record in public service speaks volumes”.

“Senator Olamilekan Adeola Yayi has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment to development, and dedication to the welfare of the people”, he stated.

The former PDP stalwart urged members of his support groups, political associates and residents of Yewa South, Ipokia and Ogun West to work actively for the success of Senator Adeola, the APC and all its candidates in the 2027 elections.

Members of the support groups also pledged to intensify grassroots mobilisation, voter engagement and political participation in support of the APC across the constituency and beyond.

They expressed confidence that the emergence of Senator Adeola as Governor would usher in what they described as a new phase of development, inclusiveness and prosperity for Ogun State, particularly for Ogun West Senatorial District.

Party members also describe the defection as a notable boost for the APC in Yewa South/Ipokia Federal Constituency and another indication of the growing political momentum surrounding Senator Adeola’s governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.

The development is expected to further shape the political landscape in Ogun West as parties intensify consultations, grassroots mobilisation and strategic alignments in preparation for the next electoral cycle.

The statement announcing the defection was signed by Olamide Olagunju on behalf of the ’Seni Salako Vanguard.
