Former Ogun State Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyejide Sunkanmi Kamilu, popularly known as Suco, has been appointed as Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to the Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau.
The appointment, conveyed in a letter dated May 4, 2026 and signed by Essien Eyo Essien, Secretary of Human Resources and Staff Development at the National Assembly, comes barely three months after ‘Suco’ defected from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Premier World News links the appointment to the influence of Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, whose political structure ‘Suco’ has actively identified with since joining the APC.
Since his defection, ‘Suco’ has remained visible within Yayi’s political camp, frequently appearing on radio platforms and social media engagements to advocate for the senator’s governorship ambition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Yayi, who has now emerged as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate in Ogun State, is widely regarded as a major political force whose network continues to attract young politicians and grassroots mobilizers across party lines.
In a formal appreciation letter addressed to Senator Adeola, Suco described the appointment as a reflection of Yayi’s commitment to youth empowerment and leadership development.
“This singular act once again confirms your reputation as a compassionate, visionary, and people-oriented leader who is genuinely committed to empowering young people and helping emerging politicians achieve their dreams”, he wrote.
He further likened Yayi’s leadership style to that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the senator has consistently demonstrated a deliberate effort to mentor and support the next generation of political leaders.
“Your confidence in young people and your willingness to reward loyalty, dedication, and excellence clearly show the kind of progressive leadership that awaits Ogun State”, the letter stated.
Premier World News reports that the development strengthens a growing perception within Ogun politics that Yayi’s political structure places strategic value on loyalty, grassroots engagement and empowerment through opportunities.
The appointment also reflects a broader political culture where active participation and visible commitment within party structures can translate into appointments and influence.
Premier World News notes that Suco’s emergence sends a message that political efforts and dedication within party ranks are being recognized and rewarded.
While accepting the appointment, Suco pledged to justify the confidence reposed in him through hard work and responsible service.
“I remain truly humbled by this opportunity, and I assure you that I will not disappoint you, the people of Ogun State, or the confidence reposed in me in the discharge of my duties”, he added.
The development further strengthens ongoing political alignments within Ogun APC as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.
With increasing endorsements, appointments, and strategic mobilization, Yayi’s political camp continues to consolidate influence across the state’s political landscape, Premier World News reports.
