Former Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Olusola Obasanjo has recorded a significant political milestone in her 2027 governorship bid, securing the backing of the Ijebu Traditional Council, a powerful body comprising 56 monarchs across the Ijebu axis of Ogun State.

The high-level consultation, held at the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland, drew a strategic engagement between the governorship aspirant and the royal institution, as part of her ongoing statewide consultations.

The council, chaired by Oba Lawrence Jaiyeoba Adebajo, unanimously offered royal blessings to Iyabo Obasanjo, urging her to remain steadfast in her ambition and commending her vision for a more prosperous and progressive Ogun State.

The monarchs described her leadership profile as credible and impactful, recalling her contributions during her tenure as a commissioner and her broader legacy of service to the people.

They further noted that Iyabo Obasanjo is the first and so far the only governorship aspirant to formally consult and consolidate with the entire council comprising the 56 traditional stools in the Ijebu region, describing the move as respectful, strategic and commendable.

Other prominent royal fathers present at the meeting included Oba Anthony Alakija, Oba Sikiru Okuribido, and Oba Abdulrasaq Adenugba, as well as several other monarchs from the six local government areas within the Ijebu zone.

Premier World News reports that the engagement later progressed to a closed-door session between the aspirant and the royal council, with details of the discussions undisclosed but widely interpreted as a consolidation of mutual understanding and support.

Premier World News views the development as a major boost to Iyabo Obasanjo’s governorship ambition, reinforcing her emergence as a formidable and humane contender with growing acceptance across both political and traditional institutions in the state.

The visit further emphasizes her strategic approach of engaging critical stakeholders across all segments of Ogun society, positioning her as a consensus-building candidate ahead of the 2027 election.
