Ogun Approves 1,000 New TRACE Officers as Agency Marks 20th Anniversary

Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has commended the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) for its unwavering commitment to public safety, describing the agency as an indispensable pillar in the state’s road traffic system.

Speaking as Chairperson of the Ogun State Road Safety Advisory Council during the “TRACE at 20” Symposium and the 10th Annual Commanders’ Conference, the Deputy Governor emphasized the agency’s evolving role in safeguarding lives, managing urban congestion and promoting traffic discipline.

The event, themed “Building Resilient Leadership and Management Models for Traffic Personnel/Managers in Ogun State”, was held at the Valley View Auditorium, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta.

Salako-Oyedele described the theme as both timely and strategic in view of the increasingly complex traffic environment influenced by population growth, industrial expansion, and new mobility patterns.

She praised TRACE for going beyond enforcement to champion road safety awareness, emergency responsiveness and education.

“These conferences are more than ceremonial gatherings; they are critical platforms for rethinking leadership, professionalism, and the future of traffic control in Ogun State”, she remarked.

She lauded the leadership of TRACE under the State Ministry of Transportation, highlighting the platform’s importance in professional development, policy reflection and innovation.

She also acknowledged Governor Dapo Abiodun’s continued support for the agency, especially his recent approval of the recruitment of 1,000 new officers to boost operational efficiency.

Also speaking at the event, the Ogun State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Cabinet and Security, Mr. Olanrewaju Saka, commended TRACE for its achievements and urged it to embrace emerging innovations in data collection and traffic control.

In his welcome address, TRACE Commandant, Commander Seni Ogunyemi, noted that despite challenges, TRACE has continued to uphold its core values and play a strategic role in traffic regulation and safety across the state.

He also expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for the recent approval to recruit 1,000 additional officers to expand the agency’s workforce.

Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, described TRACE as one of the best traffic management agencies in the country, urging its personnel to rededicate themselves to service with sincerity and excellence.

In his remarks, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, retired AIG Shola Subair, pledged continued support and described the conference as vital to enhancing the knowledge of traffic officers on law enforcement and road safety.

Pioneer TRACE Commander, Major Dapo Sunmola (rtd), recalled the agency’s humble beginnings at the Ministry of Transportation before its formal establishment as a state agency, praising the progress and dedication of both past and current leadership.

The Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, congratulated TRACE on its 20th anniversary, applauding the agency’s invaluable contributions to public safety.

Other dignitaries present included Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo (represented by DCP Sarah Ehindero); NSCDC Commandant, Ekundayo Omolade; and FRSC Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin.

They all commended TRACE’s synergy with sister security agencies and its dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
