In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode, and Odeda Federal Constituencies has adopted Arch. Oladele Olaleye as its consensus candidate for the House of Representatives.

The consensus arrangement, concluded on Sunday at the Abeokuta North PDP Secretariat in Sokori, Abeokuta, was described by party stakeholders as peaceful, transparent and widely accepted by aspirants and party members across the federal constituency.

Premier World News reports that the development marks one of the earliest major consolidation moves within the Ogun PDP as opposition parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.

The meeting attracted party executives, stakeholders, youth leaders, women groups, and supporters from Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode, and Odeda local government areas, creating what observers described as a strong display of unity and internal coordination within the PDP structure.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present to monitor the exercise in compliance with electoral and party guidelines.

Among key leaders at the event were the Deputy State Chairman of the PDP, Abiodun Ogunremi, and the State Legal Adviser, Waliu Oladipupo, alongside local government party chairmen, House of Assembly aspirants and other senior party figures.

Speaking during the exercise, Hon. Ogunremi commended Olaleye for what he described as years of loyalty, sacrifice and commitment to the PDP.

He expressed confidence that the party would perform strongly in the federal constituency during the 2027 polls.

Special recognition was also given to Olu Jay Macton, who voluntarily stepped down for Olaleye in what party leaders described as a demonstration of political maturity and collective responsibility.

Party stakeholders praised the move as a strategic decision aimed at strengthening internal unity and avoiding divisive contests within the party structure.

In his acceptance speech, Arch. Olaleye thanked party leaders and supporters for entrusting him with the mandate to represent the PDP in the constituency.

“I appreciate the confidence reposed in me by our leaders, stakeholders, and party faithful. I remain committed to the progress of our party and the development of Abeokuta North, Obafemi Owode and Odeda Federal Constituencies”, he said.

He further pledged to remain accessible to the people while promoting grassroots participation, inclusiveness and internal unity within the party.

Premier World News also reports that the consensus emergence of Olaleye may strengthen the PDP’s competitiveness within the federal constituency ahead of the 2027 elections.

Premier World News also notes that the orderly nature of the process contrasts with growing tensions seen in some rival political camps across the state, positioning the Ogun PDP as a party attempting to rebuild cohesion and electoral confidence.

Premier World News further gathered that Olaleye’s growing grassroots acceptance, combined with the PDP’s renewed mobilization efforts, may make the federal constituency one of the closely watched political battlegrounds in Ogun State ahead of 2027.
