Governor Dapo Abiodun and leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun Central Senatorial District have officially adopted Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.

The decision was announced on Thursday during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting of the APC held in Abeokuta, reinforcing the party’s growing reliance on consensus arrangements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Salisu, who currently represents Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, is seeking re-election for a second term.

Announcing the decision, Governor Abiodun described the senator as a disciplined and trustworthy political ally whose performance and loyalty had earned him the confidence of the party leadership.

“He is consistent. He is dependable and reliable”, the governor stated.

Abiodun noted that Salisu, who previously served as his Chief of Staff during his first term in office, had demonstrated administrative competence and political maturity both in governance and legislative responsibilities.

The governor expressed confidence that the senator would consolidate on his achievements and improve representation across areas requiring further intervention during a second term.

Also speaking at the meeting, the APC’s consensus governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, urged party members to extend the same level of support and solidarity shown to him to Senator Salisu.

According to Yayi, unity within the party remains critical to sustaining the APC’s political dominance in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Salisu expressed appreciation to party leaders and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the endorsement through more impactful representation.

“I am deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and trust shown in me. I will continue to work diligently in the interest of Ogun Central and Ogun State at large”, he said.

Born on August 3, 1964, Salisu is a politician, ICT expert and Fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (FNCS).

An indigene of Abeokuta, he holds B.Sc., M.Sc., and MBA degrees in Computer Science and Management from the University of Lagos, alongside executive training from the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before venturing into politics, he worked with multinational firms including Mobil, Total, and ETB, before founding Simplex Automation Systems, an ICT-focused company.

Since his election into the Senate in 2023, Salisu has chaired the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

Premier World News reports that the senator has also championed several digital and educational initiatives, including advocacy for the Digital Economy and E-Governance Bill, support for digital journalism through equipment donations, and the distribution of free JAMB forms to students across Ogun Central.

Premier World News reports that the adoption of Salisu further reflects the APC’s strategic use of consensus arrangements to reduce internal contestations and strengthen party cohesion ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
