PDP Reorganises Ogun Leadership, Appoints Semiu Sodipo as State Secretary

The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced Alhaji Semiu Sodipo as its new State Secretary, following the resignation of the former secretary, Dr. Sunday Solarin, marking a key leadership reorganisation within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The announcement was made on Tuesday during the PDP’s end-of-the-year consultative forum held at the Olubori Banquet Hall, AAE&T, Abeokuta.

Sodipo’s appointment follows the resignation of the former State Secretary, Dr. Sunday Solarin, who stepped down effective November 13 after his election and elevation at the party’s National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he emerged as Deputy National Organising Secretary of the PDP.

Confirming the development, the State Chairman of the party, Hon. Abayomi Tella, said the decision to accept Solarin’s resignation was taken with mixed emotions, stressing that the move was driven by national responsibility rather than internal crisis.

“We reluctantly accepted Dr. Sunday Solarin’s resignation because his impact and legacy have strengthened the party beyond what we wished to lose. However, this is a resignation to serve the PDP at the national level, not an exit from the party”, Tella said.

The appointment of Sodipo was formally communicated to Premier World News in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Otunba Arc. Kayode Adebayo.

Premier World News was informed that Alhaji Sodipo brings significant institutional memory and experience to the position, having previously served as Acting State Secretary between 2011 and 2012 and later as substantive State Secretary from 2012 to 2020.

Speaking on behalf of the State Working Committee, Tella praised Solarin’s tenure, describing it as one defined by discipline, professionalism and strategic organisation.

“His hard work has not gone unnoticed. His expertise has left an indelible mark on the party and we are confident he will excel in his new national assignment”, the chairman added.

On Sodipo’s emergence, Tella explained that the selection followed extensive consultations and internal assessments, noting that the party deliberately prioritised competence and experience.

“The process was rigorous. Alhaji Semiu Sodipo stood out because of his wealth of experience and doggedness. It will take someone of his calibre to consolidate and build on the solid foundation laid by Dr. Solarin”, he said.

The consultative forum attracted top PDP stakeholders across Ogun State, including members of the State Executive Committee, local government party chairmen, former candidates, caucus leaders, serving members of the Ogun State House of Assembly and other influential party leaders.

In his remarks, former PDP governorship candidate in the state, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu (LADO), commended party members for their loyalty and resilience despite political challenges.

“I appreciate everyone for their endurance and unwavering commitment to the growth of our party. As we look ahead, we must prepare for the responsibilities and opportunities that 2027 presents”, Adebutu said, while wishing members a prosperous New Year in advance.
