Alleged Same-Sex Relationship Sparks Tragedy in Lagos, Suspect on the Run

Security outfit in Nigeria has declared one Olafioye Ebenezer, aged 42, wanted for allegedly engaging in same-sex relations with an accomplice, identified as Alloysius Mbadiegwu, in a Lagos community.

According to safety sources, the case was triggered by intelligence received from a concerned neighbor in September 2022, revealing what was described as “indecent conduct” involving the two men.

The situation allegedly escalated into mob violence, tragically resulting in the death of an innocent bystander who was mistaken for one of the accused.

While Mbadiegwu reportedly escaped the initial chaos, he was later apprehended by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) and handed over to law enforcement for investigation and possible prosecution.

Some safety and protection organizations and institutions have now launched a manhunt for Olafioye Ebenezer, urging members of the public to assist with any credible information regarding his whereabouts.

Authorities have emphasized the importance of reporting to the nearest police station to aid in the arrest.

Same-sex relationships remain criminalized under Nigerian law, with convictions carrying penalties of up to 14 years’ imprisonment under the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act signed into law in 2014.

Every safety organization involved have reaffirmed commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that justice is served in line with the country’s legal framework.
