Odoogbolu Ogun State – Former Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo has intensified her statewide consultations ahead of the 2027 governorship election, further consolidating grassroots support with a strategic visit to Odoogbolu Local Government Area, where she received strong supports from both council and party leadership.
Iyabo Obasanjo, widely regarded as one of the most visible aspirants in the race, engaged key stakeholders across the local government in a move that affirms her sustained grassroots outreach, an approach that sets her apart in the buildup to the party’s primary election.
At the council level, Iyabo Obasanjo was warmly received by the local government leadership under the chairmanship of Hon. (Dr.) Babatunde Oyetola Diya.
Members of the executive council, including Deacon Stanley Olulogun (Secretary), Princess Olusola Victoria (Vice Chairman), Olusada Rahman (Supervisor, Special Duties) and Olukoya Ekitunde (Majority Leader), commended her courage and readiness to lead the state.
They encouraged her to remain steadfast in her ambition while emphasizing the importance of aligning with national party leadership to secure the governorship ticket.
“We support your aspiration and encourage you not to give up. While the decision lies with the national leadership, we believe in your capacity and leadership,” a council leader stated.
Other stakeholders present, including Hon. Akeem Adesoye, Balogun Nurudeen, Hon. Kukoyi and several councillors, echoed similar sentiments, praising her track record and affirming their support.
Shortly after, the aspirant proceeded to Odoogbolu town, where she met with the local government leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by party chairman Akogun Muyiwa Idowu.
The party executives, including Alhaji Nosiru Odunaya (Vice Chairman), Mobolaji Olufemi (Secretary), Mrs. Nike Olowu (Woman Leader), Ogunbakin Gbenga (PRO) and Hammed Musa (Youth Leader), received her with enthusiasm, describing her as a tested and trusted leader.
According to the party leaders:
“We do not need any introduction. We know your track record, your capacity and your commitment to humanity. You have proven yourself”.
They also referenced her service as a former commissioner and her longstanding connection with the grassroots, noting the goodwill associated with her family legacy, including that of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The engagement culminated in a celebratory atmosphere, as supporters broke into songs of hope, expressing confidence in her emergence as the next governor and potentially the first female to lead Ogun State.
Responding, Iyabo Obasanjo expressed appreciation for the warm reception and reaffirmed her commitment to inclusive leadership, grassroots development and continuous consultation.
