An aspirant for the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olalekan Jiboku, has distributed food items to about 150 residents of Abeokuta South Local Government Area as part of activities marking the ongoing Ramadan and Lenten seasons.
The humanitarian gesture, which took place across several communities in Abeokuta South on Saturday, was aimed at supporting vulnerable residents observing the Muslim fasting period and the Christian season of reflection and sacrifice.
Speaking with journalists during the distribution exercise, Jiboku said the initiative was part of his commitment to community support and fostering unity among residents regardless of religious background.
According to him, the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate compassion, generosity and solidarity within communities.
“This season reminds us of the importance of sacrifice, love and compassion. It is a time when we must show kindness to one another and extend support to those in need within our communities”, he said.
The aspirant explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from among widows, elderly residents, artisans and low-income families who may face additional economic pressures during the fasting season.
He urged residents of Abeokuta South to use the spiritual period to promote peace, strengthen communal relationships and pray for the progress of Nigeria.
“We must continue to pray for our dear country. With collective prayers and commitment to good values, Nigeria will overcome its challenges and move toward greater prosperity”, Jiboku added.
Some of the beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, describing the donation as timely support amid the prevailing economic situation in the country.

Community leaders who witnessed the distribution also commended the initiative, noting that acts of generosity during Ramadan and Lent help strengthen social bonds and encourage humanitarian support within local communities.
Jiboku, who has earlier unveiled a community-focused development blueprint known as “Vision 2027” for Abeokuta South, has consistently emphasized inclusive governance, grassroots engagement and social support programmes as key pillars of his political agenda.
Premier World News reports that such community-driven initiatives have become a recurring feature of grassroots politics in Ogun State, where aspirants often combine humanitarian outreach with policy advocacy while engaging constituents ahead of future electoral contests.
Premier World News also reports that the Ogun State House of Assembly (OGHA), which serves as the legislative arm of government in the state, is responsible for lawmaking and oversight functions aimed at advancing governance and development across Ogun’s constituencies.
