A prominent banker, technocrat and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Tunde Lemo, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), affirming his readiness to provide leadership that drives inclusive development and grassroots advancement.

Lemo made the declaration on Wednesday during interactions with pressmen and party members at Ward 12 Congress in Ita-Agemo, Isale-Igbein, Abeokuta South, a key grassroots engagement ahead of the APC’s internal mobilisation programme.

Addressing enthusiastic party supporters, the seasoned economist said his decision to vie for the state’s top office is anchored on a commitment to accelerate socio-economic transformation, especially at the local level, emphasising Ogun’s abundant agricultural and industrial potential.

“Yes, of course, I have my eyes on 2027 just like everyone else, but everything is in the hands of God”, Lemo said, underscoring faith as central to his political journey.

He expressed optimism about the state’s political landscape and the strength of the APC as a platform for service, describing the party as genuine, people-oriented and committed to national and local development.

“APC is an organic party, real and people-oriented. We believe in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda”.

“There should be unity, no rancour as we look ahead to the 2027 election”, he stated, referencing ongoing national development initiatives aligned with the federal agenda.

Lemo also lauded the peaceful and participatory nature of the ward congresses across the state, marking them as evidence of intra-party cohesion and grassroots support, vital ingredients for electoral success in future contests.

Premier World News reports that Ogun’s next governorship election, slated for March 6, 2027, will unfold in a highly competitive environment, with several aspirants expected to emerge from different senatorial districts as zoning debates and party strategies take shape.

Premier World News also reports that Lemo’s entry adds an experienced technocratic profile to the race, competing alongside other potential contenders from within and outside the ruling party, as the political calculus for the APC ticket continues to take form.

As the 2027 campaign season gains swiftness, Lemo’s declaration formalises his ambition to succeed the incumbent governor, Dapo Abiodun, who was re-elected in 2023 and will complete his second term before the next gubernatorial contest, Premier World News reports.
