Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP for Ogun Central senatorial district in the 2023 National Assembly election, Olumide Aderinokun has rejected the results of the poll released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the last Saturday’s election.
The electoral umpire, INEC on Sunday, announced that Aderinokun polled 52,940 votes to came second position, while APC’s Salisu Shuaib scored 96,769 votes to came first position with Labour Party’s Collins Abayomi in third position with 27,884 votes.
Aderinokun alleged that the poll was marred with irregularities, including over-voting and other discrepancies, which made the results not credible, but rather manipulated.
While rejecting the results publicly in Abeokuta town, he noted that there were occasions of over-voting and gross electoral malpractice across various polling units, where election was carried out.
Speaking through his media aide, Taiye Taiwo, Aderinokun described the outcome of the election as a robbery and theft of the mandate of the people of the senatorial district.
“The good people of Ogun Central have been robbed. The system failed the people and Chief Aderinokun with the backing of the PDP family in Ogun State will not be accepting the results tendered by INEC,” he expressed.
“The result will be challenged because it doesn’t reflect the will of the people in Ogun Central. There were many instances of over-voting, poor network for the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) to work effectively, delayed uploading of results and there were inconsistencies with numbers of voters and the results.
“The process was rigged, and we won’t fold our hands to be cheated. We are heading to the election tribunal, and we encourage the people to be watchful and desist from acts capable of instigating violence,” he said.
