  • Emmanuel Oke / Premier World News

Freelance and Independent Broadcasters’ Association of Nigeria (FIBAN), Ogun State Chapter, has appointed Honourable (Chief) Olalekan Alex Shoyinka, popularly known as Ayinla Egba, as its new Chairman, following resolutions reached at the association’s State Congress held at the weekend.

The appointment was subsequently ratified by the National Congress of FIBAN, which took place in Ibadan on Sunday, January 18, 2026, thereby granting full constitutional backing to the new leadership structure in Ogun State.

The ratification was witnessed by key stakeholders and national leaders of the Association, including members of the outgoing National Working Committee led by Comrade Taiwo Adebayo-Gold.

Other prominent figures present at the Ibadan congress included Mogaji Kola Olootu, Prophet Niyi Akinboade (Ologbojo), Comrade Ben Uwabor, Alhaji Gbenga Adebayo-Oladunni (Imalian Boy), Comrade Desmond Nwachukwu, and Comrade Seun Awodele, among other respected leaders and stakeholders.

Hon. (Chief) Shoyinka is to steer the affairs of Ogun FIBAN through a seven-man Caretaker Committee, constituted to stabilise, reform and reposition the association in line with national best practices.

Members of the Caretaker Committee are:

  • Comrade Olusoji Idowu Soewu (Isele Nla)
  • Comrade Bolanle Oluwatoyin Asakpa
  • Comrade Olusoji Akindiya (Okanlomo)
  • Comrade Remilekun Elegbede
  • Comrade Moses Okunlola – Secretary

The emergence of Ayinla Egba as Chairman was unanimous, with members citing his wealth of experience and proven leadership credentials within the Association.

He previously served Ogun FIBAN as Publicity Secretary and General Secretary, roles in which he was noted for administrative competence, inclusiveness and commitment to the ideals of the Association.

The Caretaker Committee has been mandated to undertake a comprehensive programme of reform, rebranding and institutional repositioning, with emphasis on professionalism, unity, credibility and effective engagement of members across the state.

In his acceptance remarks, Hon. (Chief) Shoyinka expressed gratitude to the national leadership, elders and members of the Association for the confidence reposed in him and the Committee.

He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in achieving the task ahead.

“This assignment cannot be accomplished by the Caretaker Committee alone. It requires the support, cooperation.and active participation of all members. As our elders say, a heavy burden cannot be carried alone”, he said.

He assured members that the mandate would be executed with seriousness, integrity, transparency and commitment, adding that the Committee is determined to restore pride, professionalism and public confidence in Ogun FIBAN within the stipulated period.

The Ogun FIBAN leadership has therefore called on all members of the Association to support the new Caretaker Committee in its efforts to build a stronger, more united and credible FIBAN in Ogun State.
