A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Tunde Lemo, has extended warm greetings to Muslim and Christian faithful in Ogun State and across Nigeria as Ramadan and the Lenten season commence, urging unity, reflection and peaceful coexistence.
Lemo, an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, described the rare coincidence of the two sacred fasting periods as “symbolic of religious harmony” and an opportunity for national introspection.
“Ramadan and Lenten seasons are times of deep reflection, sacrifice and unity”, Lemo affirmed.
“It is quite fortuitous that the fasting of both Muslims and Christians is beginning around the same time this year, symbolizing religious harmony”.
In his message to Muslim faithful, the renowned economist emphasized that fasting signifies submission, sacrifice and devotion to divine will.
“To our Muslim brothers and sisters, fasting signifies submission and sacrifice”, he said.
“We pray that our sacrifice will not be in vain and that our country will be a better place through the citizens’ commitment and sacrifice. May the Almighty accept all supplications.”
Lemo also advocated religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among adherents of different faiths, noting that the concurrent observance of Ramadan and Lent underscores shared spiritual values.
He reaffirmed his commitment to identifying with both Muslim and Christian communities throughout the fasting period and pledged to continue championing peace, unity and communal harmony.
The former apex bank executive further encouraged Nigerians to use the sacred season to pray for national stability and prosperity, while remaining steadfast in supporting policies aimed at national development, including the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“As we fast and pray, let us remember the peace and tranquility of our country”, Lemo stated.
“This season reminds us that sacrifice, compassion and shared values are essential to building stronger communities and a prosperous nation”.
Religion faithful note that Lemo’s message aligns with his longstanding reputation as a technocrat and bridge-builder who consistently advocates national unity and social cohesion.
As Ramadan and Lent progress, he urged citizens to remain committed to faith, reflection and acts of compassion, values he described as fundamental to Nigeria’s collective advancement.
