Ewekoro, Ogun State – Former Senator (Prof.) Iyabo Obasanjo further deepened her grassroots political engagement ahead of the 2027 governorship election, as the apex leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ewekoro Local Government hosted her in a politically charged meeting marked by strong support and reflections on her legacy.
The high-level consultation was held on Monday at Engr. (Hon.) Shina Adegbenro’s compound, Olusegun Osoba Hilltop, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Led by Engr. (Hon.) Shina Adegbenro, the meeting forms part of Iyabo Obasanjo’s ongoing statewide outreach, reinforcing her strategy of consolidating support across party structures and local leadership blocs.
The meeting took a glorifying turn as party leaders and stakeholders recounted her tenure as senator representing Ogun Central, describing her as a rare public servant whose impact directly touched lives.
One of the leaders, in a widely applauded remark, noted:
“Ogun Central is not always lucky to have a Senator who understands the plight of the masses, but Iyabo Obasanjo broke that jinx. Since she left, no one has matched her legacy”.
The statement visibly moved the aspirant, who became emotional as encomiums poured in from multiple speakers, including Hon. Gafar Balogun; Hon. Kunle Adegboye (Texaco); Hon. Taiwo Idowu (Gold); Hon. Yusuf Amosun; and Hon. Dele Soluade, among others.
Speakers also highlighted her interventions through the Iyaniwura Foundation, citing empowerment programmes and direct support initiatives that continue to impact beneficiaries across communities.
One stakeholder recalled benefiting from her empowerment initiatives, noting that both he and his family still feel the positive effects years after her time in office.
The leadership commended Iyabo Obasanjo for what they described as her humility and respect for due process, noting that she is the first governorship aspirant to formally visit and engage the apex leadership in Ewekoro Local Government.
They further encouraged her to sustain engagement with national party leadership, acknowledging that while ticket decisions rest at higher levels, her credibility and acceptability remain strong.
“If we had the power to decide, we would pick you again and again”, one leader stated, urging her to continue consolidating support across all levels.
Responding, Iyabo Obasanjo expressed deep appreciation for the reception, reaffirming her commitment to inclusive leadership and respect for party structures.
“My visit is borne out of respect and honour for our leaders and elders. Efforts are ongoing at the national level, but I remain committed to due process and collective progress”, she said.
She also assured stakeholders of her intention to return for further consultations as the political process unfolds.
