The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, will host senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force at its February Monthly Congress as part of efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration between the media and security agencies.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Command, SP Babaseyi Oluseyi, alongside the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ibara Division, CSP Lateef Balogun, are scheduled to attend the Congress on Thursday, February 26, 2026, at 3 p.m.

The event will hold at the Olusegun Osoba Hall, Iwe-Iroyin House, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

The visit, according to the NUJ leadership led by Comrade Akinwale Olanrewaju, is designed as a formal familiarization engagement aimed at reinforcing strategic synergy between the Ogun State Police Command and the media community.

  • Focus on Cybercrime and Media Responsibility:

Beyond the courtesy engagement, SP Oluseyi is expected to deliver a presentation on the evolving threats of cybercrime and cyberbullying, issues increasingly intersecting with journalism and digital communication.

The Council emphasized that the session will provide journalists with critical insights into the legal frameworks regulating digital communication in Nigeria, particularly as online platforms continue to redefine news dissemination.

“In an era of rapid digital transition, it is essential for media practitioners to understand the legal boundaries of their profession“, the Council noted.

The engagement is expected to address emerging legal risks, responsible reportage and the need for compliance with extant laws guiding cyberspace activities.

  • Strengthening Police–Media Partnership:

Recognizing the Police as a key institution in public safety and the media as the “Fourth Estate of the Realm”, the NUJ described the Congress as a deliberate step toward fostering mutual respect, transparency and professional cooperation.

The leadership of the Ogun NUJ expressed optimism that the interaction would mark a new chapter in police-media relations within the state, ensuring that collaboration remains constructive, transparent and effective.

“The initiative spotlights its commitment to professional development and the safety of journalists while promoting accountability and public trust in both institutions”, the Council added
