Crisis in Ekiti as Infrastructure Collapses: Otunba Fayose Intervenes, Offers Relief

  • By Wasiu Adekunle Adejumo | Premier World News

In a scene that captured the mounting infrastructure decay in Ekiti State, Otunba Emmanuel Fayose, a leading 2026 governorship aspirant, was seen consoling desperate commuters along the Omuo–Ilumoba–Agbado Road, one of the state’s most critical yet severely deteriorated transport routes.

Distress calls and video evidence obtained by Premier World News revealed heartbreaking scenes: stranded motorists, collapsed trucks, helpless traders and passengers forced to sleep by the roadside, trapped by deep mud and collapsed portions of the road.

According to locals, the worsening situation has persisted for months despite multiple pleas to the present administration of Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO).

Moved by the cries of road users, Otunba Fayose visited the area on Wednessday, where he met truck drivers, market women, school children and residents in visible distress.

Emotionally charged scenes unfolded as many surrounded him, weeping and pleading for help.

The governorship hopeful and philanthropist assured the people of immediate intervention even from his private resources.

“I am not in government yet, but I am a concerned Ekiti citizen. It is painful to watch my people suffer this way. The trucks bringing goods to this state are sinking. Traders are losing money. Lives are at risk. This is not governance; this is sheer insensitivity,” Otunba Fayose said.

He further accused the BAO-led administration of gross negligence and financial irresponsibility, saying the current government has received three times more federal allocations than previous administrations without commensurate infrastructural improvements.

“This road is a lifeline. Yet, it has been completely abandoned. Investors are leaving Ekiti because of this. People now avoid us. This is the legacy BAO is building: hardship and backwardness,” Otunba Fayose added.

Otunba Fayose committed to deploying six truckloads of sand as an emergency palliative to restore temporary access for commuters and transporters.

He emphasised that this act was not for politics, but as a show of solidarity with suffering citizens.

“If I am elected in 2026, this road and many others will receive global-standard upgrades. We must rescue Ekiti from this suffering. Enough is enough,” Fayose declared, urging the people to “kick out any government that ignores their pain.”

Many residents at the scene expressed relief and appreciation at Fayose’s appearance, describing it as the first time in months that any high-profile leader visited the road to understand their plight firsthand.
