Tragic death of Nigerian Afrobeat star, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, remains shrouded in mystery, despite ongoing investigations and multiple toxicology tests.
Mohbad, aged 27, passed away on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that have since raised numerous questions.
Initial reports indicated that a nurse administered three injections to the singer prior to his death, which were believed to have triggered a fatal reaction.
Subsequently, the Lagos State Police initiated a 13-man special investigation team, leading to the exhumation of Mohbad’s body on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy.
The first toxicology / autopsy test allegedly conducted by the Lagos State Government at Pennsylvania Laboratory in th United States was declared inconclusive, prompting the Mohbad family to seek an independent examination. The Coroner’s Court granted permission for this, with the family bearing all associated costs.
Unfortunately, the second results of the independent toxicology test, conducted by the family, through a medical team headed by Dr. Nwonmu Okekeze, Chief Consultant and Head of Forensic Unit and Medical Institute, Ibadan Teaching Hospital was read at the Coroner Court on Friday 11th April, 2025 but also returned inconclusive, stating that “the cause of death could not be determined”, due to the decomposition of the body at the time of examination.
These developments have led to widespread public dissatisfaction, both within Nigeria and internationally. Fans, activists and concerned citizens are voicing their frustrations over the lack of definitive answers regarding Mohbad’s death.
The inability to ascertain a clear cause has fueled debates and calls for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise.
As the coroner’s inquest continues, the public remains eager for transparency and justice, demanding that the truth behind Mohbad’s death be uncovered.
