Power: Engr Adebola Anofi fulfills passion in renewable Energy Sector

President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent policy to remove electricity generation and distribution from exclusive list is set to significantly bring about major diversity by private organizations to adopt renewable energy as a means to substantially improve energy generation and distribution.

One of such organizations is White Consult Technology Limited, a Lagos based renewable energy firm that focuses on providing alternative energy solutions to homes, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and organisations through Solar Energy.

According to the lead consultant of the firm, Engr Adebola Anofi, “the desire to find alternative means of power generation was born out of an incapacitating situation he found himself and which he knew was beyond governments powers as government doesn’t have the wherewithal to do it all”, noting that the idea to go into alternative energy solutions was birthed while recuperating from an ailments that made him bedridden for several months.

“While I was bedridden, recuperating from a health challenge, sometimes around April, 2014,  power was a major problem which affected me, this provocative measure that was borne in me during that period, I started by putting my skills into play by trying to design an inverter and then get a battery from the local market to power the inverter. And gradually the company was birthed and then the pilot phase started”, he said.

Training session with some Nigerians

He noted that despite that the health challenge left him on the wheelchair, it further strengthened his resolve to make a meaningful impact in the society as seen with the birth of White Consult Technology Limited.

Engr. Anofi revealed that in its 9 years of operations, what stands the organization out is majorly its after-sales support, stating that they were one of the few companies in Nigeria that offers 24 hours after-sales support, which can be assessed both physically and virtually (online).

“He added, apart from doing sales and offering training, one of the thing WCT Ltd take cognisance of is to be a responsible Corporate citizen by paying our tax as and when due”.

“We also try to give back to our community, and, one of it is our immediate environment. When you look around the street, you will see solar lights everywhere from the gate of our community. This is one of the ways we give back to our host community and they have supported us with their sales because we have over 15 customers in this community”.

“We also have students for our training centre from this same community that enjoy discounts in the training fees.”

Lamenting the reason why Solar Energy solutions still remain a little bit costly in the country, Engr. Anofi said that customers and clients seems not to have trust on locally fabricated materials, stating that, initially all items and fabrications were done locally in Nigeria, however to improve on its service delivery more sophisticated materials are now sourced from abroad for improved quality.

Anofi used the opportunity to encourage more Nigerian entrepreneurs to look beyond the challenges currently faced by the country, to key into the public private partnership initiative of Government for a better society and greater Nigeria.
